Sretan Uskrs!

Real life Paganija has seen a lot of rain. The traditional Good Friday/Velika Petak processions have been rained on. People still turned out in great numbers to take part and to see them. The one in Metkovic is often very big, and has been known to include members of the Croatian Army who re:enact the parts of Roman soldiers.
Easter in the region is very charming. Grown people as well as children exchange Easter eggs which may simply be dyed red, but can also be decorated with complex designs which will remind strangers to the region of the more elaborate Ukrainian Easter eggs. The word in fact is the same in all Slavic lands 'pjesanki'. The word has close ties to the word for writeing. In fact the designs on the eggs are symbolic writeing and the designs date to very ancient pre-history. A type of egg like this is still used in for example Iran, as part of their Noroz, or solar New Year celebrations.
Eggs are given to relatives, to people we love, young ladies give them to young men they like, and to friends.
When I visited there, I found that custom charming. Another thing, if someone offers you an egg they like to see you eat and enjoy it right then. It's a good thing I like eggs! Only the sick are excused if they'd like to take the egg home and either eat it later or give it to someone who is not on a restricted diet. I think I ate like 50 eggs dureing Easter week!

Well it looks like haveing a Paganija page on LiveJournal isn't going to work, because they seem to be a wee bit pissy about letting people do the multiple identities thing. WHY NOT? Anyway I appreciate Blogspot allowing it within reason and linking it for you so you don't have to have all sorts of prepreka doing it. more stuff on Paganija as it becomes available.

Yesterday I explained that Paganija was a part of the Nereva Delta, and the origin of the term 'pagan'. It's historically verifiable, and further it's a place I've been and with which I have ancestral connections. I decided to name this blog that, and go ahead and only discuss matters connected to that region here.

here is today's Paganija link! :)

Others will follow as I find them.
